Jupiter (Guru / Brihaspati) is the most benefic planet in Vedic astrology, representing wisdom, expansion, dharma, children, and fortune. He rules Sagittarius (Dhanu) and Pisces (Meena), and is exalted in Cancer. Jupiter is the spiritual teacher of the gods.

Brihaspati is the son of Sage Angiras. He is the guru (spiritual preceptor) of the Devas (gods) and the author of the Brihaspati Sutras. He is associated with the science of ethics, politics, and economics. His wife Tara was abducted by Chandra (Moon), leading to the birth of Budha (Mercury).
Jupiter governs wisdom, knowledge, dharma, wealth, children, marriage (for women), and spiritual growth. A strong Jupiter gives optimism, generosity, learning, and fortune. A weak or afflicted Jupiter can cause pessimism, financial difficulties, lack of focus, or issues with children and teachers.
Worship Lord Vishnu, Shiva, or Brihaspati on Thursdays. Offer yellow flowers, turmeric, and chickpeas (chana dal). Recite the Guru Mantra or the Vishnu Sahasranamam. Chant "Om Brihaspataye Namah" 108 times. Wear a yellow sapphire (Pukhraj) set in gold on the index finger. Offer bananas to a cow on Thursday.
